Reflections at the End of the School Year
We are reaching the end of another school year. It really does not seem that long ago that the King family arrived in Cluj ready to begin a new chapter in their lives. The time goes so quickly!
As with the end of any school year there have been so many events going on it is hard to keep up with everything. With trips, summer fete, art exhibitions and graduations to name but a few it has certainly been a busy few months. This, all going on at a time, where teachers and students are getting tired and the batteries and getting low. So I would personally like to thank all the staff for their hard work and commitment to making the end of the year so full of events.
The end of the year is also a time for goodbyes and no doubt like any school there will be students moving on to pastures new. We will have tears and farewells but we will also have memories and friendships or life. So if you are one of the families who are changing schools or relocating, we wish you all the best for the next stage of your journey and hope that you will come back and visit if you have the opportunity. To those of you returning next year we will see you all at the end of August with batteries charged and ready to go for another academic year.

Summer Fete
On Friday, the 19th of June, our entire school had the amazing opportunity to experience the annual Summer Fete together with friends and family. This year’s theme was inspired by the great Romanian sculptor and artist Constantin Brâncuși, encouraging guests to embrace Romanian culture by wearing traditional costumes. As always, this event had something fun for every single person: food, drinks, face painting, raffle prizes, open stage performances, tin foil statues, flower bookmarks, and, of course, sponging the teachers, among others. It took place in three different locations: the decorated interior of the school for workshops, the sunny sports field for sponging the teachers, and the scenic rooftop for final concerts and raffle announcements.
What all of us enjoyed most, however, wasn’t just the activities, but rather the magical unifying effect the experience had. The Summer Fete never fails to bring everyone together, including teachers, classmates, old friends, and families, and this is exactly what distinguishes it from a regular school event and makes it an exciting celebration everyone always looks forward to at the end of the school year. Undeniably, it is the highlight of the year at the Royal School. Thank you to our wonderful Miss Julia and the volunteers for making this celebration possible!
Mirabilis Choir End-of-Year Concert – An Unforgettable Evening
At the end of this school year, our school community had the pleasure of attending the Mirabilis Choir’s end-of-year concert. It was an evening filled with emotion, music, and memorable moments.
This has been an outstanding year for the Mirabilis Choir, which was awarded First Prize at the CadenzaFest Prague 2026 International Music Competition. This achievement reflects the talent, hard work, and dedication of all choir members. The concert provided a wonderful opportunity to celebrate this success and share the results of a year of commitment and rehearsal with the audience.
Beyond the musical performance itself, the concert highlighted the strong spirit of our school community. Students, teachers, parents, and staff came together to celebrate not only music but also the connections that unite us. Every piece was warmly received, and the emotion conveyed by the singers reached everyone in the audience.
One of the most touching moments of the evening was the appearance of the Parents’ Choir, which joined the students for the finale. Together, they created a memorable ending filled with warmth, joy, and a true sense of togetherness.
We would like to extend our sincere congratulations and thanks to our music teacher, Miss Renata, for her dedication, passion, and inspiring leadership of the Mirabilis Choir. We would also like to thank the teachers and our administrative colleagues for their valuable support in organizing the event and helping make the evening such a success.
Sunshine, Fun, and Lasting Memories
To mark the end of a year full of learning and wonderful experiences, Year 3 and Year 4 students enjoyed an unforgettable trip to Avrig, near Sibiu. The children had a day filled with relaxing and fun activities, including swimming pool time, outdoor games and free-play activities, as well as a painting workshop where they were able to express their creativity. The evening was a special one, spent together with friends in a joyful atmosphere full of laughter and lasting memories. This trip was a perfect way to celebrate the end of a school year filled with education, growth, and memorable moments.
Sports Day
Sport plays an important role in life at Royal School. We believe that learning to compete with grace, to push through difficulty, and to celebrate effort alongside achievement are values that serve our students long after the school day ends. Sports Day brings all of this to life in the most visible and joyful way possible.
We would like to extend our warmest thanks to the parents who came out to cheer their children on, and to all the staff who worked hard behind the scenes to organise such a smooth and memorable event!
Celebrating End-of-Year Milestones Across the School
As we reach the end of another school year, we proudly celebrate the achievements of all our graduating year groups: Year 2, Year 6, Year 9, and Year 13. Each of these milestones marks an important step in our students’ journeys, from the earliest stages of primary school through to the transition into secondary and, ultimately, the completion of their school experience. It has been wonderful to see how much each year group has grown, learned, and developed, both academically and personally. We are incredibly proud of every student and all that they have accomplished. Below, we will include some touching extracts from the speeches written by Year 9 students.
“What makes today emotional is not just that we are wearing a hat and going to throw it in the air. It is because we are graduating and realizing that the little moments are over. The random laughs in class. The conversations before class was over. The teachers saying, “This will be on the test,” and everyone suddenly waking up. The times we said, “I can’t wait to leave this school”, and now that the moment is here… maybe we are not as ready as we thought.
There is a quote that says: Sometimes you never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory. And I think that perfectly describes today.
This school has given us more than education. It has given us friendships. Friendships that started with “Can I borrow a pen?” and somehow turned into people we cannot imagine life without. I would like to thank all my classmates for the amazing time I spent with them. To our teachers — thank you! Thank you for your patience, your support, your knowledge, and for believing in us even when we forgot to believe in ourselves. Thank you for answering the same question fourteen times because nobody was listening to the first thirteen tries. Thank you for teaching us lessons far beyond textbooks. Some of you became role models to us. Some became people we could talk to on difficult days, and some became experts at telling us to stop talking.
A special thank you to Ms. Maria, who was much more than a form tutor for our class. She is one of the reasons I am still coming to this school. She made me a better person. She made all of us better people, and this is all because of her kindness. If there was anything I could do to reward her, I would do it without hesitation. Thank you, Ms Maria!
Furthermore, to our parents and families, thank you for every early morning, every “Did you finish your homework?”, every ride to school, every encouraging word, and every sacrifice you have made for us. We would not be standing here without you, and we are forever grateful. Thank you!
Darius Balint Year 9
“One of the most popular movie genres is coming-of-age movies. Yes, most of them are incredibly unrealistic and seem to be written by someone who was homeschooled, but I still think they can really provide a visual of our lives right now. This graduation is one step closer to our final one, which may seem insignificant to most adults because “it’s just what every person goes through”, but it still marks an important milestone.
We haven’t learned super difficult math formulas yet, or had to work with chemical compounds that sound like they were made up on the spot, but we have still made it through KS3. It is something I believe we should all be proud of, and I’m not saying this just to convince my parents to take me to a fancy restaurant tomorrow.
The next four years of our lives will be, as every adult over 18 says, “the best years of our lives.” So instead of treating this day as an unimportant event, let’s actually be proud of ourselves. And think of it like this: we’ll be able to see whether those high school movies are actually true, or whether the director had his memory wiped when he graduated and made a wild guess about what it would be like.”
