New Beginnings
Mr. Robert King, Head of School

I can’t believe that we have already completed half a term already. It seems like such a short time ago that we arrived in Cluj to start to acclimatise ourselves to our new home.
It is with great pleasure that I write my first piece for the Royal School Gazette. It allows me a little time and space to reflect on our first two months at the school and reminds me of all the great things that have happened at school so far. It was an honor to join the school at such a time to celebrate the 10th anniversary last week and enjoy all the food, fun and flags at UN day on Friday. As we enjoyed a well earned break this week, we recharged our batteries and prepared for a busy end to the winter term. When we come back we will have Halloween and then look towards the festive season and all that comes with it.
Thank you to all those who have made us feel so welcome at the school and all the parents, especially the PTFA, who have attended meetings and events in the first half term. Your support and time are greatly appreciated in helping us to get the best out of all our students.
Royal School Turns 10!

Artem, Y6
Parents, teachers, and students, everyone enjoyed the show!
In today’s news, I’m going to talk about the 10th-year anniversary of our school, Royal School in Transylvania. The ceremony started at 2 p.m. when the parents began to arrive. The announcer started the celebration with kind and appreciative words about our community. Then, the Young Famous Orchestra came on stage. The orchestra and students sang the school’s anthem, and after that, they performed two other songs.
After the musical number, the school’s founders and Mr. King, our principal, had their speeches. Everyone was touched by their powerful words and hopes for the future. Then there was a short break. After this short moment, some of the students came on stage and performed a drama play. But wait, there’s something else I wanted to tell you! The interesting thing about the drama play was that it included students from Year 3 to Year 13. It was about students who had been part of the school for a long time. The only person I knew from the play was Nathael from Year 6. He is my friend and it was funny to see him on stage. Then the orchestra played three more classical pieces. The last piece was very nice because it sounded like a rock and roll song. They even sang the Royal School anthem one more time at the end.
It was an exciting day, especially the part in which a video of people who had enjoyed life at Royal School long ago, including Mr. Joe Berwick, our previous principal, was displayed on the big screen. So many beautiful memories! Everyone enjoyed it! As we left the building, I saw smiles on everyone’s faces, and we were all happy.
I really recommend coming to Royal School in Transylvania, you get the best learning experiences here!

Unity in Diversity: Our School’s UN Day Celebration
The Royal School community grows stronger every year, and this celebration is a wonderful opportunity for us to connect and get to know one another. Despite our differences, we all share the same values and a common goal: the growth, development, and well-being of our students.
This Friday, October 17th, 2025, we came together once again to celebrate UN Day and the wonderful diversity of our school community. Parents brought delicious dishes from all over the world, filling our senses with flavors and aromas from many different countries. Students wowed us with singing, dancing, and performances that celebrated international cultures. Laughter, music, and smiles filled the halls, reminding us how special it is to be part of a community where every culture is celebrated and every heart is welcome.

Frozen Voices
By Thea and Amia Y4

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Thea. She was eight years old, and she loved the school she went to. She had many friends there, but her best friend was a girl named Amia. They had lessons together, and their favorite ones were Music and Choir. They liked those lessons the most because they could sing on stage. Their teacher’s name was Miss Burcă. They had another teacher named Miss Raluca, but their main teacher was Miss Burcă.
Miss Burcă was the best teacher in the world for them, and that’s why they loved Music and Choir so much. She taught them so many things that they couldn’t believe how easily they learned to sing. The girls were very excited because their teacher told them that on the 15th of November, they might go to a choir competition in Prague. They needed to practice a lot for this to happen because first, they had to go to another event where they would be chosen to take part in the competition.
It was almost the big day, and they were practicing more and more. They told their classmates to come twice a week and not go to other clubs so they could practice harder for the competition. The day before the big competition, they went to choir practice. But exactly at that moment, their voices froze!
“Oh no! Our voices are frozen!” Thea yelled.
“How are we going to sing tomorrow on stage?!” Amia panicked.
“I think I have an idea,” said Miss Burcă thoughtfully.
“What is it? Tell us fast, time is running out!” Thea screamed.
“So, I will tell your teacher if you can have more choir lessons so we can warm them up better,” Miss Burcă said quietly.
“That’s a great idea!” Thea gasped.
“I will also tell your parents about it,” said Miss Burcă.
“Okay… but how are we going to fix our voices?” Amia asked.
“Well, let’s focus on warming them up first,” Miss Burcă said.
They started singing a song called The Moon. They sang:
“Oh moon, shining in the night,
Oh moon, are you listening, oh moon…”
And just like that, their voices started to sound better!
“I’m so excited for the big competition! Now we have our voices back, and we can go with nooooo problems!” Thea giggled.
“Ha ha! I thought we wouldn’t even make it to the competition,” Amia laughed.
“Oh yeah, that was a big problem… but you know what?” Thea said.
“What?” Amia asked.
“I think that without you, Miss Burcă, we wouldn’t have fixed our voices, and without you, the competition would have been bye-bye for us,” said Thea.
“Yeah, me too!” said Amia.
“Thank you so much for appreciating me. I love you too, girls,” Miss Burcă said warmly.
And then came the big competition. They sang The Moon with no problems at all. They giggled and had fun together, and they couldn’t wait for the next one.
